Summer Reading (2008-2009)

To Students and Parents:

The Summer Reading program at Kennesaw Mountain High School gives students an opportunity to increase their understanding of literature, to develop reading comprehension and vocabulary skills, and to discover the wonderful world of reading. This year we are bringing back summer reading to all English courses.

Students who are enrolled in all English courses are REQUIRED to complete summer reading. Please find the course for which you are registered next school year and make your selection(s). On-level classes have one book. All honors classes, with the exception of ninth Magnet and Advanced Placement Literature, have one required selection and one choice.

All books should be readily available in local public libraries and bookstores. Honors students will participate in a variety of activities, including written evaluations, in their English classes during the first week of the semester they take English—either August or January.  Failure to read the novels may have a substantially negative effect on your grade. Please take the assignment seriously and come to your class prepared to participate fully.

Some selections may contain content and/or language that some people may find objectionable. Please preview novels before making your choice. If you have a concern about a required reading, an alternate selection may be provided with the exception of AP courses.

As always, we recommend that you read for enjoyment, knowledge, and enrichment throughout your high school years. We hope you have an enjoyable summer!   -- The KMHS English Department

If you have any concerns or questions, you may contact the English department or Mike Woodall – Before students make a choice, we encourage them to go online for descriptions of novels.
